Day 14 – 27th January 2018 – Streaky Bay to Ceduna

The pack up went really well in Streaky Bay, we are becoming professionals at it now.  The drive also went really smoothly and we arrived at the Ceduna Foreshore Caravan Park by 12pm.  The issue with this (the camping crew will understand and appreciate this dilemma), there is a rule that you can’t set up camp without a bevvy in your hand, but we never arrive anywhere early so it was a dry set up at Ceduna.  Just didn’t feel right.

The Caravan Park is really nice, great facilities and walking distance to the main street, pub and foreshore.  The camp kitchen even has a pizza oven (nowhere as nice as yours though Nige!).  Might be pizza on the menu while we are here I think.

It was a stinker of a day – was meant to be 43 degrees but at one stage it hit 48!  It was 42.5 in the shade under the annex.  Unfortunately there is no air-conditioned recreation room here as there was in Streaky.  So we set up the fan outside and had spray bottles of water and cold towels to try to get through the day.  We went for a bit of a drive around to suss out the area too.  It is another beautiful spot.  Unfortunately the weather is not very conducive to fishing which is disappointing as we had a hot tip to go for squid at Shelley Beach, apparently it is also good for Blue Swimmer crabs and Whiting too.  You can also get Blue Swimmer crabs and squid from the jetty on the foreshore, but I don’t think we will get to while we are here due to the weather.

We had planned to eat dinner at the van but the weather won out and we went to the air-conditioned pub instead.  It is right next door to the caravan park which is handy and the food was great.

We then crossed the road to the jetty after dinner and the view was so beautiful.  Got to love a stormy sky and a sunset!

  1. The trip is amazing and only two weeks in!! Bringing back a few memories for us – we were intrigued with Murphy’s Haystacks – and have had a couple of trips that included lovely evenings at the Ceduna Hotel and a walk along the jetty. The scenery in your photos is spectacular. So glad you have relaxed to the point you were chased down by the Camping Ground owners. Wish I’d been there to see that!!
    Enjoy the journey. xx

    1. I know, I can’t believe it has been 2 weeks and also how quickly it is going. I have been really impressed with the Eyre Peninsula and would definitely like to come back and explore it further. We didn’t make it to Wave Rock, did you? We have definitely shifted gear and are pretty relaxed. Enjoying the life-style. x

  2. Hey Muddy & Skidmark – hope you get to wet a line even if only off the jetty (which looks beautiful in your photo ) before you head off on the next leg x

    1. Hey Tania, well Skiddy is sitting in the van with his jumper and beanie on and it is saying 27.6 degrees in the van hahahahahaha. It has been raining pretty heavily outside all morning, but I have my fingers crossed we can get out there even for a little while as you suggested.

  3. Hey guys, this stormy sunset picture is awesome, i suggest you send it to channel 2. Loving the updates, and really glad your drone is ok – that would have been a real downer. I’m sure you’re taking care of yourselves in the heat but please be very careful. Looking forward to seeing the footage you managed to get. Good luck with the fishing xxx

    1. Thanks Sam, we will do that. Glad to hear that you are enjoying the updates and yes we were super relieved that the drone survived. We are definitely looking after ourselves in the heat, there is not too much you can do in those sort of temperatures. Drinking plenty of water and staying out of the sun. xx
