Day 231 – 2nd September 2018 – Darwin, Fishing Dundee Beach

Happy Fathers Day to all the Dads!!  I hope that you get spoilt today.

I am very pleased to say that after the trauma of the Dundee Boat ramp previously, I got the opportunity to try again!  I put the boat in with Dave standing nearby in case I needed help, but it all went well.  It wasn’t as busy as it was last time on the long weekend.   I even managed to stay over one side and slam the brakes on to shake the boat off the trailer and got it first go.  We were on the water by 7am.  Yay.

I am pleased to say that Dave caught a Blue Salmon about 50cm long.  That was the only keeper of the day.  We did catch a lot of fish, but that was the catch of the day.  The catch included Spanish flags, small Golden Snapper, small Trevally and a few small Bronze Whaler sharks. Col also hooked a few Tarpon which put on a spectacular show for us jumping out the water and spitting the lure out of it’s mouth mid-air.  We caught a Batfish, some Sand Bass and Javelin fish.

At the end of the day both Dave and I jumped out of the boat back at shore and I got the boat out of the water without any issue (I did weave my way down the boat ramp but I am realising that most people do!  It doesn’t matter as long as you stay on the ramp and don’t hit anyone else).  I felt really proud of myself with the boat as it was at Dundee Beach that I choked last time, so I have come a long way since then in a very short period of time.  Sorry if everyone is sick of me talking about backing trailers down boat ramps.  I am sure the shine will wear off of it soon, but for now, I am excited.

We then packed up and drove home, stopping to buy mangos at a roadside stall, and they were delicious!  We cooked Dave some Barra for dinner from the last time we fished at Shady Camp and he loved it.  All in all it was a fun weekend trip away.
