Day 115 – 8th May 2018 – Giralia Station

When Joyce arrived at Giralia she mentioned that she was excited to have an oven and be able to make home made bread.  My ears pricked up as I was planning to download a recipe and attempt this on my own, but asked Joyce if she would be happy to teach me.  So glad I did!  Joyce shared her recipe with me and helped me to make a small loaf and a plait.  The plait was amazing with a mexican chilli sauce on top, grated cheese and spaghetti bolognaise herbs, soooo good.  I was really excited and the end result was fantastic.  we are going to make another batch soon and try to master this skill.

I am in the process of typing up Joyce’s recipe and will post it soon.

Joyce does the plait when she doesn’t have a bread tin which I thought was a great idea.  We run out of bread often as it tends to go mouldy quickly in the heat and we just don’t have the space to keep it in the fridge or freezer.  Being an hour and a half away from the shops makes it tricky, so that was the motivation to wanting to learn how to make bread.  You just cannot beat the smell of freshly baked bread.  Great day!

    1. Thanks Martin, I have written it up and just sent it to Joyce to review before I post it. Should be up soon.

  1. Looks amazing and expect that you will cook one up for the crew when you get back !! Quite the pioneer you have become. Missing you both but loving the journey you are sharing with us x

    1. Ha ha I will definitely cook you some for sure. I am going to try and see if I can cook it in the hooded BBQ or in the Dutch Oven as it would be great to be able to make it when you don’t have access to an oven. Will see how I go!! x

  2. For some reason, making bread is a very fulfilling task…it bring back memories of when my boys were little and I used to make 8 loaves a week! Pity I cant do that anymore. It is definitely a great skill to have xxx

    1. Wow, 8 loaves a week, that is crazy!!
But I agree it is fulfilling making anything from scratch and bread is new territory for me. Definitely enjoying learning new skills x
