Day 148 – 10th June 2018 – El Questro, Emma Gorge

Just to let you know that we are having some issues with the menu on the blog.  We have reached the maximum number of menu items previously and increased this but hit the maximum once again.  As a result we lost the menu list and cannot add anymore new ones :(  As we have not had mobile coverage this has added to the complications of fixing it.  At the moment I am collapsing the older posts – 5 into 1, so you may be a bit confused by the email links coming through.  This is a temporary fix and I will explore this further for a permanent fix when we are settled in Darwin.  For the moment, just ignore the older links and click on the most recent ones in the email.

We started the day by going for a drive to check out the boat ramp.  We had decided not to bring the boat with us, so this was more for future trips and because we like checking out boat ramps!  It was in a beautiful spot but Col felt that this didn’t look particularly fishy.  It also freaks me out getting into salt water croc territory to be putting the boat in and out of the water.  For now I will try not to think about it.

We set off to explore Emma Gorge today.  I was sick when the Camping Crew went to see the Gorge back in 2015, so was keen to do this hike and see this Gorge.  I was not disappointed.  The hike is over rocky and uneven ground, it is a relatively short walk, 3.5km return trip.  There are two beautiful water holes at the end of the walk that you can swim in, the last water hole has a waterfall and a warm water spring on the right hand side as well.

The hike ends at the Emma Gorge Falls and the second pool, which is just magestic.  There is the main waterfall, but there is also a water shower falling from the edge of the cliff.  The water is quite cold, but I found a hot spring on the right hand side of the pool which warmed the surface of the water and formed some warmer patches.  This definitely made it easier to get in.  It was magical to swim under the falls and drink in the beauty of this place before beginning the hike back.

We were able to have a camp fire at El Questro, so got this going in the evening and sat out under the stars watching the flames dance.  I did sit on a bull ant nest initially and was promptly advised by an angry ant of my intrusion with a sharp bite to my foot.  I quickly moved my chair and made sure to avoid this spot and all was good.
