Day 52 – 6th March 2018 – Boranup (Near Margaret River)

Today was a very full but fun day.  We first went to Hamelin Bay and got to see a big stingray swimming along the shore.

We found a very cute and small sea urchin and a nautalis shell.

From there we headed to Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse, but when we arrived we found out that you can’t climb the stairs until you are 4 years old, so Haim couldn’t go in.  It was also $20pp to go on the tour, or $8pp to walk around the grounds.   We all agreed that we would save our money and just went down to the rocks nearby.  Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse is the South Western most point in Australia and is where the Indian and Southern Ocean meet.  It was cool to walk either side of the lighthouse and know you are looking at a different ocean.

We then headed to Augusta to stop and have some lunch and it was a beautiful spot.  Afterwards we went for a bit of a walk along the beach and found some very strange creatures and we were not sure what they were.  A couple of people walking on the beach told us they were Sea Slugs!

Then we headed off to Granny’s Pool for a bit of a dip.

From there we went for a drive through the Boranup National Park and tried several sandy tracks of varying diffuculty to try and get to the Boranup Beach.  At one point the fish cleaning table came loose on top of Col’s car and flew off the top, clipping the bonnet on the way!  The car survived luckily with only a small scratch.

We did manage to find a track to a look out over the beach, and the view was pretty spectacular.

Jake organised a great family photo using the drone.

After seeing how beautiful the beach was, we were all determined to find a way down there.  We took pretty rough tracks, but got to a spot within walking distance.  It was down a pretty steep sand dune while being attacked by sandflies.  But it was a beautiful beach.

The day ended with a small bat doing fly-bys under the annex to try and eat the insects that were attracted to the light.  It was a pretty cute little bat and kept everyone entertained watching him.  A great end to a great day.

My goal is definitely to go on a massive tour of Aus once I’m able to. You look and sound so relaxed! Good on ya!

    1. It really is a beautiful spot and we found out it has only been opened since December. So everything is really new and clean too :)

    1. It was really special to have the Cunninghams join us on the journey. So special to share it with people you love.
