Day 238 – 9th September 2018 – Darwin, Waterfront and Stokes Hill Wharf

One of the people we have met up here suggested that Breakfast at Alexander Lake is a great thing to do.  Alexander Lake is in East Point Reserve and is a great place where you can have a picnic or go for a swim.  It is right opposite the beach.  There is a guy that sets up bean bags around the lake and cooks up bacon and egg rolls and makes coffee.  This sounded fantastic so we agreed to meet Dad and Dee by Alexander Lake. Unfortunately when we got there, there were no bean bags or bacon and egg rolls.  I am guessing that this only happens in the dry season and as soon as September arrives and the build up starts, things start to shut down around the place.  So if you are in Darwin in a dry season, add this to your ‘To Do List’.  Luckily we were just around the corner from the Cool Spot Cafe so we ducked around there for a delicious breakfast.  They also have really great coffee there too.  Crisis averted.  I didn’t manage to get a good photo of Alexander Lake, so this is downloaded from Wiki.

Day 237 – 8th September 2018 – Darwin, Jumping Croc Tour

Col and I were keen to do a Jumping Croc Tour while in Darwin, but we thought it would be a good thing to do when we had visitors.  We were happy to find out that Dad and Dee had not done one previously and were also keen to come along and check it out.  So the plan was to have lunch at our van then drive to Adelaide River for the Croc Jumping Tour and after that we would head to the Humpty Doo Pub for dinner on our way home. Day 234 – 5th September 2018 – Darwin

I had a day off which is always appreciated!  Just the normal day off with cleaning, washing and van stuff, although you always get through it much quicker than when you live in a house!  We now have the $24 washing machine in our laundry, so washing is way easier these days. Day 233 – 4th September 2018 – Darwin

Today is Skiddies birthday – HAPPY BIRTHDAY COLLY WOLLY!!!

As we both had to work today, I said I would take Col out for dinner in the evening.  I took him to the Trailer Boat Club in Fannie Bay (I can hear you laughing Tania) and am so glad that I did.  Such a beautiful spot but we got there a little late and just missed the sunset.  I didn’t realise that this was such a feature of the restaurant and will make sure to arrive earlier next time.  We did catch the tail end of it.  The food was good and the atmosphere excellent, it felt like an iconic Darwin experience.  Both Col and I really enjoyed our birthday date.  I had said to Col that I would buy him a new drone for his birthday so he is madly researching the one that he wants, watching videos, talking to his media guru, Jake Cunningham.  Will keep you posted on the new purchase. Day 232 – 3rd September 2018 – Darwin

Today Dave heads home again to the cold winter in Adelaide!  He is not ready to leave the tropical paradise but is already planning a trip back up to Darwin in the wet season to go fishing again.

Col and I had to head to work, so we had a coffee with Dave in the morning and left him to pack up and make his way to the airport.  Was great having Dave here for the week.  Safe travels home!!

Day 231 – 2nd September 2018 – Darwin, Fishing Dundee Beach

Happy Fathers Day to all the Dads!!  I hope that you get spoilt today.

I am very pleased to say that after the trauma of the Dundee Boat ramp previously, I got the opportunity to try again!  I put the boat in with Dave standing nearby in case I needed help, but it all went well.  It wasn’t as busy as it was last time on the long weekend.   I even managed to stay over one side and slam the brakes on to shake the boat off the trailer and got it first go.  We were on the water by 7am.  Yay.

Day 230 – 1st September 2018 – Darwin

We all agreed that we wanted to take the boat out while Dave was here, and both Col and I really enjoyed the day we went fishing at Dundee Beach.  So off we headed  and did the two and a half hour drive to Dundee Beach to stay overnight at the caravan park and take the boat out fishing Sunday morning.  As we were only staying one night we decided to rent a very basic Donga with a double and a single bed and all bunk in together.  The room was tiny!  But it was fine for what we needed.
