Day 65 – 19th March 2018 – Denmark

Sitting outside the van today, we could hear the surf crashing onto the shore.  Love that sound.  So we thought we would make the most of the half decent weather and go for a bike ride to explore.  We were riding on the bike track but couldn’t get a good look at the Inlet initially as it was protected from view by some bushes, as we came through the other side we were both taken aback by the beauty.  I don’t think I have seen clearer water or water so blue.  It almost looked like someone had put dye in it.  The photos never do it justice.

Day 64 – 18th March 2018 – Denmark

Col worked on preparing another video today.  This is of our fishing trip at Walpole, the inlets were so beautiful.  Col accidentally snagged a stingray too, then after setting it free a much bigger stingray came up to the boat and we decided to pack up and move as we really did not want to catch that one!  It might have dragged us along for a ride I think.

Day 63 – 17th March 2018 – Denmark

Today Col and I drove to Albany to visit the National Anzac Centre.  On the drive there we passed some beautiful pink Belladonna Lily’s that grow wild around the south of WA.  I have seen them spread out amongst the Karri Forests and they are so beautiful.  I looked them up today and found out they are a weed, which seems crazy to me, as they are so beautiful!  But a weed they are indeed.  Most of the ones I have seen have been a really pale pink, but these were a striking colour.  Col can pick these weeds and bring them home to me anytime!

Day 62 – 16th March 2018 – Denmark

Just a quiet one around the caravan park today, taking it easy.  More Cross Stitch (sorry Tania), and Col worked on his videos.  I did follow up with the insurance company and unfortunately we have it confirmed that the annex is not covered under those circumstances.  Oh well, time to dust ourselves off and move on.  We have already started investigating our plan B. Day 61 – 15th March 2018 – Denmark (Valley of the Giants)

Before I get started on this blog today, I need to warn you to get comfortable as it is a long one.  You might want to read this one in parts :)  I tried to condense it but there was just too much stuff to share.  So I am sorry not sorry.

I woke up this morning and headed over to the toilet block and I am very happy to report that there were no snakes.  Quite a few kangaroos and ducks, but no snakes.  We have again been really lucky with the site we were given, right at the back of the park and no one else around us but the wild life.  It is great to be in a Caravan Park but not have people on top of you.

Day 60 – 14th March 2018 – Boranup to Denmark

Today started in an interesting fashion.  There was a lot of rain overnight and both Col and I enjoyed listening to the many frogs that woke up in the forest due to the rainful.  It was loud and a beautiful sound.  In the morning I made the comment to Col that I hope there are no frogs in the toilet when I go, and no snakes chasing the frogs in the toilet!!  And off I set on my morning walk to the toilet block.

As I neared the toilet block, I noticed on the path ahead of me a large snake.  It was smaller than the Dugite snakes we have seen and a different colour.  Lighter with a yellowish belly.  I froze a couple of metres away from the snake.  The advice is to stand still and give the snake a chance to slither away.  So I did.  I stopped dead and waited.  And waited.  And waited.  It was a Mexican stand off.  I was not moving, but nor was the snake.  Eventually I decided this was silly.  One of us has to move.  So I slowly backed away from the snake, then turned and walked back to the Caravan and told Col what I had found. Day 59 – 13th March 2018 – Boranup

We woke up with renewed determination to find the Annex and wrote up some ‘Lost’ notices with a reward of $100 for the return of the Annex.  We drove into Margaret River and posted notices on the Community Board there, then drove to Augusta and did the same.

We drove up and down roads doing 40km per hour, scanning the sides.  We would stop and get out where there were steep sections to try and see if it had fallen into a rut we couldn’t see from the road.  We stopped and walked large sections too.  Col and I drove pretty much the whole day, but unfortunately there was no sign of it.  We checked with the Ranger and the Police again but no luck. Day 58 – 12th March 2018 – Boranup

Erin, Jake and Hamish left today, so the morning was all about the pack up and getting them off safely and on time.  Colin and I had planned to spend the afternoon packing up camp and then head off to Denmark tomorrow.  The day did not go as planned, to say the least.

The Cunnninghams did get packed up in time and headed off to the airport.  We had confirmation that the drive went well and they throroughly enjoyed a long hot shower in the Qantas lounge after the short bush showers for the week in Jarrahdene.  Amazing how you appreciate the luxury of the little things that you usually take for granted.  Haim did really well on the drive and the flight and they made it home safely, so that was great. Day 57 – 11th March 2018 – Boranup

We have had a relaxing day around the camp today.  Erin cooked up some yummy french toast, bacon and maple syrup breakfast this morning that we all appreciated.  We then got creative and Erin, Haim and I spent the morning making caterpillers which turned out very cute (even if I do say so myself).  Hamish and I started them, but Erin and I got right into it and unleashed our crafty sides.

After Haim woke up from his sleep we went down to Surfers Point at Prevally.  There was a surf competition running and we thought we would check it out.  Unfortunately the surf comp had pretty much wrapped up by the time we got down there, but it was a beautiful beach to spend some time at.  There were some Kite Surfers that we enjoyed watching as well as some amazing waves and surfers riding them in.  We think it is where they are holding the Ripcurl Pro in a couple of weeks time.  Definitely worth checking out if you are in the area, but not a safe swimming beach if you are not a strong swimmer.

We stopped off at a lookout overlooking Margaret River.  Col and Jake were excited to stop and fly the drone (footage to come).  Hamish on the other hand was happy to have his Mum sit on his lap, too cute.

Today is the last day that we have Erin, Jake and Hamish with us in Margaret River.  They head off tomorrow morning to make the long journey home to Adelaide.  A 3 and a half our drive, followed by another 3 and a half hour flight!  Hoping that Hamish can hold it together for that long.

To say that we have enjoyed having them with us is an understatement.  What a privilege it is to share time with family.  These three are some of our favourite people on this planet and I deeply appreciate the effort and the cost for them to make the journey over to see us.  We have loved every minute of our time together and now look forward to the next time we get to see you guys!!  So lucky you are our family!
