Day 378 – 27 January 2019 – Darwin

The blog posts have slowed down because the busy life has caught us up for the moment. No complaints though as life in general is still really good.

We went back to Adelaide for Christmas and it was awesome to catch family and friends. It was also so nice to spend time with the grandkids. Christmas is about having young kids running around squealing with excitement and our boys didn’t let us down.

We stayed with Jem and Ry for short but fun time. These guys are about to embark on a new life direction and are moving interstate. Kris and I are really excited for them although it’s quite tough for them to arrange everything that’s involved in uprooting your life and planting somewhere new. But all in all, we felt welcome and appreciated being among family.

We then stayed with Sammer, Stepho and Franklin too. Again, nice to be welcomed and feel like we’re with family. Kris is still with the kiddy winks and I’m back in Darwin.

We just had Australia day and I spent the time with some local friends, doing – what else, having a beer at a Bar-B! I know the crew is down at Salt Creek this weekend camping down there and I always feel a hint of ‘missing out’ when we don’t go on a camping trip with the crew. Kris received an invite for that trip but she is away helping Jem and Ry as well as squeezing in a trip to the tennis.

Amongst the growing noise of scams and spam we received a message from Feedspot (http://www.feedspot.com/). I missed the first message because the email got ‘junked’. Anyway, Feedspot aims to group web places around topics and then rates them. As a user, you can then find your favourite topics and a bunch of content ‘related and rated’. It also provides a user with simple way of keeping in touch with content that you like by sending you a message when something new has been posted.

Anuj from Feedspot contacted us to let us know that our YouTube channel – https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNCpf3ahezE1E19zGiQ0lpQ – has made it into “Top 20 Australian Travel Youtube Channels to Follow in 2019″!! Check it out here: https://blog.feedspot.com/australian_travel_youtube_channels/

Just short blog. Hope everyone else is having fun too.

The Bungle Bungles to the Gibb River Road

The Bungle Bungles to the Gibb River Road

25/05/2015

There was a real air of excitement about the next leg. We had all researched the Gibb River Road and we were expecting this to be the high light of the trip. Little did we know that a major hiccup was about to rear its ugly head. Continue reading “The Bungle Bungles to the Gibb River Road”

Billiluna to Bungle Bungles

23/05/2015

The plan for this leg was to travel to a bush camp near the Bungle Bungles. This was a short leg so we thought we’d have slow start with a cooked breakfast on the previous night’s camp fire. We didn’t quite make it to the Bungle Bungles though… Continue reading “Billiluna to Bungle Bungles”

Coffin Bay

Apologies tot he readers of this blog. At this stage this post is still being written. I hope it will be finished when you next return.

In brief, our trip to Coffin Bay was a short trip over 5 days. We originally planned to travel to Innaminka however, the weather stopped us. We left at the end of August 2016 during a time when South Australia was experiencing much heavier rain fall than usual. We were watching all the road and track closure publications but the roads to Innaminka were closed. Coffin Bay was the contingency location and ended up being a pretty good alternative.

The Kimberly 2015

Over the journey, I have a done a little bit of travelling but when we first met, Kris hadn’t done much travelling. We shared the same travel dreams and so we slowly started to work toward realising some of those dreams. Our first big trip together was set for the Kimberley.

We hang out with a group of people we call ‘The Crew’. Most of The Crew travel together on various trips of various lengths and many of our trips are conceived during a group get-together. The Kimberly trip was no different and came about from a long held desire to go fishing in a remote community in the far North – Kalumburu. We didn’t make it to Kalumburu though and the story is told in the various posts that share our journey.

Below is a link to the map I made to help plan the trip.

Portable Toilets

Portable toilets seem to invoke mixed e-motions (sorry about the potty humour) among the various campers and caravaners we’ve met. I’ve never been keen on portable toilets because I simply don’t like the smell of the chemicals that camping shops sell and I could not think of a worse combination of smells – poo and chemicals – that confronts you when you empty them. I’ve even seen people dry reaching when emptying their’s which was very off putting.

But I’ve changed my thinking in recent times! Continue reading “Portable Toilets”
